BASF has launched Oppanol N PLUS, a new binder for solid-state batteries, primarily targeting electrode and electrolyte applications in sulfide-based solid-state batteries. Developed based on polyisobutylene (PIB) materials, this product leverages BASF's long-standing technological expertise in this field. Compared to commonly used PVDF binders, Oppanol N PLUS employs a non-polar hydrocarbon structure, making it more suitable for sulfide solid-state electrolyte systems and reducing the risk of potential chemical interactions between materials. At the process level, this material eliminates the reliance on the traditional organic solvent NMP, reducing solvent recovery and processing steps, simplifying the production process and lowering related costs. Simultaneously, the binder exhibits high elasticity and stable material specifications, contributing to improved mechanical stability of the electrode structure during charge and discharge processes and reducing batch-to-batch process variations. This product primarily addresses material compatibility issues in the large-scale manufacturing of solid-state batteries, focusing on improving the manufacturability of sulfide-based batteries in terms of electrode structure stability and manufacturing process consistency.
